Baule tribe
The Baule tribe lives in the center of the country. There are approx. 400,000 people. And the language they speak is “Baule”.
The Baule tribe creates different kinds and shapes of wooden sculpture. They also do mask and figure carving, it’s so popular even their neighboring countries Senufo & Guro even do it.
The Baule tribe mainly grows yams. But they also export other products such as cocoa & kola nuts. They also raise a lot of animals, such as sheeps, goats, chickens & dogs. Markets are mostly run by women.
Senfuo tribe The Senufo is a tribe which lives in the Northern part of Ivory Coast. The population is about 600,000 people. And of course, their language is “Senufo”. Oh, and the system is very strict. The farming people are high class people, on the other hand, the musicians are low class.
Art is made by special artists. Figurines that represent ancestors are usually brass miniatures and small statues and are usually common.
It is said that Senufo people are very good at farming. They also grow, millet, maize, rice and yams. As well as bananas and a lot of other crops that they have been influenced from countries all over the world. Small farming animals such as sheeps, goats, chickens and dogs are raised.
Dan tribe The Dan tribe can be found in the Western part of Ivory Coast. Their population is 350,000 people and their language is basically the name of their tribe. And they can be known as “Yacuba”.
Do you know that young men have to be isolated for a total of 3 months in the forest? They have succeeded in achieving the area of their entertainment festivals which are in historical villages, but are today welcomed by tourists.
The Dan people are very musical people. Main events such as birth, death, marriage are celebrated with music.
Masks are what sculptors usually make. Because masks play a big role in their daily lives. Including war, competition, peace, entertainment and education. They also make wooden spoons, and a type of game board used for “mancala”, a common game played, also known as “count ang capture”
